After reading through a little more than half of Educating Esme I can really tell that her students enjoy her teaching and they really do respect her. One example of the students enjoying Esme’s teaching is when her “happy box” broke because some of the students decided to make her another one. I know from personal experience that students would never do that for a teacher no matter what age group the students are in unless they actually enjoyed their learning experience. From reading this part of the novel I could also tell that her students were starting to respect her more because when Mr. Turner walked in the room the kids were loud and all over the place which made him think that she did not have control over her students but the Esme put her hand in the air and all the students stopped what they were doing and did the same so she got their attention. After reading this far into the book my personal opinion about Esme has completely changed because at the beginning I felt that she didn’t really want the job but now I can actually see that she truly cares about her students and she loves her job. An example from the book is when it’s the little girl’s birthday passed and nobody cared but Esme gave her a cupcake and sang happy birthday to her.
